Kayla Tindall and
Emma Schnell both tamed the potent Doane line-up to help earn a crucial sweep in a conference doubleheader played this afternoon on Senior Day. Northwestern won game one 4-0 and rallied for a 2-1 in game two, improving to 11-3 in the GPAC, 26-7 overall heading into the final week of the regular season.
Tindall (12-4) shutout the Tigers in game one, limiting Doane to five hits, four of which were singles, while striking out three. This was the second shutout of the season for Tindall and 13th in her career, who sent the Tigers down in order in four of the seven innings (3-5, 7th).
Emily Bosch led the Red Raiders at the plate in game one, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and
Madison Beaver added three hits and an RBI at the top of the line-up.
Amanda Everhart went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and Tindall, Schnell and
Katie Elliott all had one hit for Head Coach
Chris Nachtigall's club.
Northwestern scored two in the bottom of the first after an RBI single by Bosch and and RBI groundout by
Jensen Boger. The Red Raiders added an insurance run in each of the fifth and sixth innings, getting an RBI double by Bosch and an RBI single by Beaver.
Doane had its best scoring chance when they loaded the bases with one out in the sixth on singles by Kailyn Wiseman, Brittney Amezquita and Jordan Van roy but Tindall forced Haileight Arthur to pop out to third and then struck out Jordyn Stearns.
Tied at one in the bottom of the seventh of game two,
Cheyenne Wilcke reached base after being hit by pitch, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored the game-winner after a Doane error on a ball hit by Elliott.
Both pitchers dominated in game two as Schnell (13-2) limited Doane to just four singles and one unearned run while striking out three in the full seven innings. Josie Schnakenberg (10-7) held Northwestern to just two hits, struck out five and walked one, giving up two unearned runs.
Schnell and
Jessica Sandbulte had the two hits for the Red Raiders.
