Northwestern looks to rebound after three consecutive losses as Midland Lutheran comes to Korver Field for today’s soccer doubleheader. Midland has been one of the GPAC’s top teams so far this season going 3-1 in league play and 5-3-1 overall. Northwestern is 3-6-1 overall and has a 1-3-1 GPAC record. The Raiders trail in the all-time series 3-5-1 with the last meeting ending in a 1-1 tie. Midland is led by the second best offense in the GPAC at 23 goals this season. Their 11 assists are fourth best in the GPAC and their 125 shots ranks them second. Jessie Singleton and Kayle Smelker are tied for seventh in the league with four goals. Ashley Kirkman has made two game winning goals, which ties her with Becca Hurley for second in the GPAC. Amanda Grable has scored three goals and is tied for third in the conference with three assists. Midland’s defense has been less the stellar this season, however, as they are eleventh in goals allowed at 23 and thirteenth in saves with 34. Beth Russell has been the main goalkeeper for Midland Lutheran, making all 34 saves and allowing 23 goals, she has also collected one shut-out. Northwestern’s offense has been quiet after their 2-1 upset over Morningside College. The Raiders have scored one goal in their last four matches. Becca Hurley leads the Raiders with eight goals and three assists. She is fourth in goals and tied for third in assists in the GPAC. Her 19 points on the year rank her fourth. Wendy Hofmeyer has been the main goalkeeper for the Raiders this season, registering 49 saves, and a .845 save percentage. .845 is the fourth best save percentage in the league. She is third in the GPAC with two shut-outs as well. The Raiders have been out-shot 229-108 on the season and have given up 23 goals and only scoring 13. Northwestern lost to Dordt, 4-1, in their last match, breaking their three game scoreless streak. Northwestern only managed five shots, four on goal, against Dordt while the Defenders made 19 shots, nine on goal. Leah Aragon scored Northwestern’s only goal on ball that the keeper couldn’t hold on to. The Raiders will next take on Wartburg, Monday October 6th on Korver Field at 2:00 pm.
