Northwestern defeated Morningside College on Wednesday handing the defending GPAC Champion their first loss since 2006, 2-1.  They will try to ride that wave through their first home match as Hastings College travels to Orange City and Korver Field to take on the Red Raiders.  Northwestern has won their last two matches, knocking off NCAA D-II Upper Iowa University and defending GPAC Champ, Morningside College.

Hastings took down Nebraska Wesleyan, 3-2 in double overtime, on Wednesday to set up the match between two GPAC unbeatens.  Hastings holds the lead in the all-time series 2-7, but Northwestern has won two of the last three matches.

Hastings returns four All-GPAC players from 2007 including senior defender Stacey Klich, junior defenders Allison Kotschwar and Magdalena Cortez, and junior midfielder Jesse Herse.  So far this season the Broncos have seen Herse score three of their five team goals.  She leads the team in shots with 21 while the next closest Bronco has 13 shots.  In goal, Megan Kreifels has made 29 saves and allowed seven goals.

Northwestern has been led by freshman Becca Hurley, who has scored eight of the teams 12 goals.  Hurley has assisted on three of the remaining four goals.  Serah Bugler has scored twice while Becca Bruns and Amanda Mihaly have each scored once.  Hurley leads the team with 30 shots and Phillips is second with ten.  Defensively Northwestern has been anchored by their goalkeeper play.  The Raiders have used two keepers this season in Wendy Hofmeyer and Kelley Salem.  Hofmeyer has made 19 saves and allowed two goals while Salem has made 31 saves and allowed 12 goals.

Northwestern will hit the field again on the 23rd of September in Sioux City as they take on the Chargers of Briar Cliff in a 2:00 pm match.  The next Raider home contest will be October 1st versus Dordt College at 5:00 pm here on Korver Field.
