Northwestern Women's Soccer Helps "Rake the Town"

Oct 23, 2009

18 members of the Northwestern College women's soccer team will be helping KNWC of Sioux Falls with their "Rake the Town with 96.5" rake-a-thon. Rake the Town is for volunteers to help senior citizens who cannot rake themselves and cannot afford to hire someone.

According to KNWC's website; "Rake the Town is coordinated by the Workers on Wheels (WOW) program at the Center for Active Generations in Sioux Falls. The hope is the Rake the Town can bless homeowners who want to remain independent at home but need help with leaf raking chores and that it will also benefit the community by beautifying the neighborhood and providing volunteers the rewarding experience of working together to help those in need."

Head women's soccer coach Blake Wieking is not only using this project as a service project but also a team building activity, "This is a great chance for us to build team unity and promote Northwestern College in a positive manner in Sioux Falls to glorify His kingdom. Helping the elderly rake lawns is something that is easy for our girls to do and an easy way for us to 'love our neighbor' as God calls us to do."
