Northwestern College has named Sheena Van Roekel the women's soccer head coach, she is sixth coach in the program's history. Van Roekel served as an assistant coach last season under T.J. Buchholz who resigned in April. Van Roekel was a member of the Northwestern soccer teams from 2001-2005 and was a four year starter at the midfield position.
Following her playing career at Northwestern, Van Roekel has served as an assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity girl's soccer coach at Unity Christian High School in Orange City and as an assistant coach for Northwestern in the fall of 2007. Van Roekel has been a part of the Northwestern College soccer camp and was a co-director of the Unity Christian soccer camp in 2006. During her playing career, Van Roekel was an all-conference honorable mention player and was twice named the Defensive Player of the Year for Northwestern, and was also a team captain one season.
Van Roekel inherits a team that was 7-4-1 in GPAC play last year and 7-10-1 overall.
