Soccer Coach Buchholz Resigns

Apr 21, 2008

T.J. Buchholz, the director of soccer at Northwestern, has resigned and taken the same position at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Last season, the men's team qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history, finished with a 12-8-1 record, and won the NAIA Region III Championship.  The women's team finished 7-10-1 and was 7-4-1 in the conference.

In his seven seasons as the men's soccer coach Buchholz was 68-59-5 and 39-32-4 in the GPAC.  Northwestern has qualified for NAIA Region tournaments four times under Buchholz ('03, '04, '06, '07), they finished runner up once and were champions once.  In 2004, Buchholz's teams set the school record for wins in a season (16) and were conference champions for the first time.

This season was his only season as the women's coach.

"Today is a sad day for Northwestern college and the soccer programs," said athletic director Barry Brandt.  "T.J. has done an outstanding job, taking over both programs this year, developing young people, and developing our programs to compete nationally.  This is a huge loss for the Northwestern community, we wish his family the best and we know he will do a great job."
