The Northwestern women's soccer team picked up a GPAC victory last night by defeating Nebraska Wesleyan 1-0. The Red Raiders improve to 1-4, and more importantly 1-0 in GPAC play. Nebraska Wesleyan fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in GPAC play. Nebraska Wesleyan outshot Northwestern 19-5 but Northwestern keeper Kelley Salem was able to keep the Prairie Wolves out of the net, pitching the first shut out of her career. Salem picked up seven saves and improved her record to 1-4.
Northwestern was able to take the lead 30 minutes into the game when a Macy Rozeboom throw in was misplayed by the goalkeeper and Brittany Osborn guided the ball into the net. The Red Raiders played sound defense afterwards and were able to take advantage of some breaks to hold on for the 1-0 victory. Jamise Retzlaff, Allise Vugteveen, and Osborn all had shots on goal for Northwestern, who totaled three as a team.
Northwestern next takes on Bellevue at 6:00 p.m. in Orange City Saturday, September 15th. The Red Raiders will resume GPAC action on Tuesday, September 18th as they travel to Yankton, S.D. to take on Mount Marty College.
