Sep 27, 2007

Northwestern defeated Dakota Wesleyan 3-0 in women's soccer yesterday. Northwestern improves to 4-0 in GPAC play and 4-5 overall. DWU fell to 0-4 in GPAC play and 1-9 overall.

Northwestern goalkeeper Kelley Salem has yet to allow a goal in a conference game and her defense played great, only allowing one shot. Heather Corbin, Tara Blutt, and Carrie VanderHorst anchor the defense that has helped keep Salem perfect in the GPAC. Offensively, Northwestern had three unassisted goals, one each from Macy Rozeboom, Allise Vugteveen, and Brittnay Osborn. Jamise Retzlaff led all Raiders with eight shots and tied for the team lead for shots on goal with three. Rozeboom and Vugteveen also had three shots on goal. Becca Bruns, Serah Bugler, Carrie Van Wyk, and Osborn also had shots on goal for Northwestern, who had 14 to DWU's one. The Red Raiders out-shot the Tigers 30 to one in the match, but did not score until the second half, until Rozeboom's shot found the net in the 59th minute.

The Raiders will have nearly a week off before hosting the University of Sioux Falls on Tuesday October 2nd at the Northwestern Soccer Complex. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
