Grand View University defeated Northwestern 30-12 on Wednesday night in the Vikings first dual meet in the school's history. Former University of Iowa head wrestling coach Dan Gable was the guest of honor on the night. The first match of the night featured the 197 pound weight class, pitting Cole Spree versus Grand View's Drew Love. Spree pinned Love in 3:38 and Northwestern was up 6-0 after one match. Next up, was Nic Leither and Jeff Cain in the heavy weight class. Cain earned a 9-6 victory over Leither and Grand View cut the lead to 6-3. Northwestern then forfeited the next three weight classes (125, 133, 141) and then trailed 21-6. Third ranked Levi Price took on seventh ranked Matt Burns in the 149 pound match. Burns defeated Price 8-1 and the Vikings extended their lead to 24-6. At 157, Clay Wakefield wrestled Josh Stansbery and lost a 7-5 decision. With Northwestern trailing 27-6, Claudel Noel took on Ty Knowler at 165 pounds. Knowler defeated Noel 13-8 and Grand View moved ahead 30-6. Third ranked Tom Eaton followed Noel at 174 pounds and took on Bryce Skaggs and defeated him 11-4, cutting the deficit to 30-9. Martin Beeler wrestled J.P. Williams for the final match of the night at 184 pounds and won a 6-1 decision, bringing the final score to 30-12.
