Northwestern and Briar Cliff faced off in Northwestern's final dual of the season Tuesday night. Northwestern forfeited the 125/133 weight classes and trailed early 12-0. Freshman Clay Wakefield gave Northwestern a big push of energy in collecting a pin of Zach Mullins in 4:05, cutting the deficit to 12-6. Levi Price defeated Travis Helmers 9-3 by decision and DJ Jackson, Briar Cliff Invite Champion at 157 lbs, defeated John Shrader in 6:57 by technical fall. Lamar Reed, a Co-GPAC Wrestler of the Week pinned James Shrader in 0:56 giving Northwestern a solid 20-12 lead. The Chargers forfeited at 174 lbs. and Enock Francois defeated Jordaryl Logan 3-2 at 184 lbs. Cole Spree was able to pin John Whitmyre in 5:28 making the score 35-12 before Martin Beeler lost by decision to Waylon Goldsmith 3-6. Northwestern moved to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in the GPAC while Briar Cliff fell to 1-5-1 overall and 1-4 in the GPAC. The Red Raiders wrestlers will compete next at the GPAC Championships on Feb. 16th.
