Northwestern is off to a good start in the 2007-08 wrestling campaign. They opened with the NIACC Open and qualified four for the National tournament. Northwestern was led by junior transfer Cole Spree (184), who placed second. Enock Francois (174), Tom Eaton (174) and Lamar Reed (165) all placed in the top 5 to qualify for the NAIA National Championships. This week the Raiders will head to the DWU Open in Mitchell, SD with hopes of improving on last week’s performance. This season the Raiders first tournament win percentage doubled and the bonus matches went from two last year to 13 this year, “a product of hard work” added Coach Petty. At the DWU Open Northwestern will compete against some of the top NAIA schools in the GPAC and others including NCAA DII and NCAA DIII schools. Some of the teams will be: Dickenson State, Morningside College, Dakota Wesleyan, Briar Cliff, USF, William Penn, Augustana, Buena Vista, SDSU, St. Cloud, Northern State and Newman. Wrestling for Northwestern will be: Levi Price (141) David Carter (157) Lamar Reed (165) Kyle Bartlett (165) Tom Eaton Jr. (174) Cole Spree (184) "Goals will be to build on the momentum that we created last week, with some corrections and improvements, so we can get better. Hard work and fun and rewarded!” said Coach Petty.
