Matthew Dowell (Albany, Minn.) has signed a letter of intent to continue his wrestling career at Northwestern College beginning in the fall of 2008. Dowell, the son of Roger and Dorcas, is a 5’6” 133 lb wrestler for Albany Area High School. In his career, Dowell was a two-time captain, three time all-conference wrestler, conference champion, four-time wrestler of the week, and finished with a career record of 132-48, including going 30-6 as a senior. Dowell wrestled at the state tournament two times and the last three years of high school he finished with an 89-18 record. His 132 career wins ranks him fourth in school history. Dowell plans to major in business administration and earn his coaching certificate. While at Albany Area, Dowell was an academic letter winner, a student of the month, a member of the honor roll, a member of the honor society, and has had perfect attendance since 5th grade. He was named a Ken Chertow Academic All-American as a sophomore and was a Guillotine Academic All-State honorable mention as a junior. "We are excited to welcome Matt on the team. He has a real desire to excel at the next level and comes to us after a successful high school career," said head coach Rik Dahl. "His combination of good positioning and explosiveness will make a great addition for our lower weights."
