Head Wrestling Coach John Petty Resigns

Head Wrestling Coach John Petty has resigned his position at Northwestern College effective after the NAIA championships, which will be held on March 6-8 in Sioux City, Iowa. Coach Petty will become the head coach of a first-year wrestling program at California Baptist University in Riverside, Calif.Coach Petty

In his two years at Northwestern, the Red Raiders have been one of the top programs in the NAIA. Last season, Coach Petty’s squad finished 10th in the final NAIA poll and placed 15th with 41.5 points at the national championships. Three wrestlers earned All-American honors: Jordan Keckler, Enock Francois and Andrew Lundgren. The 2007 Red Raiders also earned the Champions of Character award at the national tournament. In addition, two wrestlers earned NAIA Scholar Athlete honors and one was named Academic All-American.This season, Coach Petty’s squad has been ranked in the top 20 all year and is currently tied for 10th. Nine grapplers have qualified for the national tournament so far this season.

“John has been a quality member of our coaching staff and employee at Northwestern College,” commented Athletic Director Barry Brandt. “He will be sorely missed, and we wish him God’s blessings as he and his family make the move to California.”

A search for Petty’s replacement will begin immediately.
