Jackson, Reed Crowned Champion at BCU Open

Two Northwestern College wrestlers were crowned champion at the Briar Cliff Open held at the Newman Flanagan Center this afternoon. Sophomores D.J. Jackson and Lamar Reed took first place in their respective weight class. Jackson went a perfect 4-0 on the day at 157 as the sophomore defeated Jeff Nimrick in the finals, 7-4. He also recorded victories by fall and major decision earlier in the day. Reed also went 4-0 in the 165-pound weight class and defeated Brett Trenhaile 2-0 in the championship match. Reed recorded two falls on the day.

Three other Red Raider grapplers competed this weekend. Sophomore Martin Beeler finished in second place with a 3-1 mark at 197. Beeler recorded three victories by decision but lost in the finals, 6-3, to Tyler Phipps. David Carter finished with a 2-2 record at 165 while Clay Wakefield went 0-2 at 149.

Northwestern will compete in their final dual of the season this Tuesday night as they host Briar Cliff at 7:00 pm.
