Game Time...Northwestern wraps up its regular season with two conference matches in Omaha, Neb. on Saturday, April 23. The Red Raiders will play Concordia at 10am and Doane at 2pm.
All-Time...Northwestern is 10-7 all-time against Concordia and 13-4 all-time against Doane. The Red Raiders defeated the Bulldogs last year and knocked off Doane twice last season, earning a win in both the regular and postseason.
Concordia...The Bulldogs have dropped three of their last four matches to fall into a fifth place tie with Concordia at 2-3 in the GPAC, 4-14 overall. They lost a pair of GPAC matches to Nebraska Wesleyan and Doane but then defeated Midland. Last time out, Concordia lost to the University of Nebraska Kearney.
Joel Rekeway is in his second season as the Bulldogs head coach, taking over the program after a successful stint at Lincoln Christian. He returns three players from a 2015 squad that finished fourth in the GPAC with a 4-3 record, 5-11 overall.
Annie Horn is the top returner, earning first team all-conference honors in doubles. Hannah Boe and Alison Ebel are the other starters returning.
Doane...The Tigers are in fourth place in the current GPAC standings with a 3-3 record, 8-8 overall. Most recently, Doane defeated Midland (7-2) but lost to Hastings last time out, 5-4, on April 20.
Jill McCartney serves as the interim coach for the Tigers' tennis program and inherits six players from a 2015 team that finished sixth in the GPAC with a 2-5 record, 4-12 overall.
Morgan Meyer is one of the returners and leads the team with an 8-5 singles' record, 6-6 in doubles. Meyer earned all-conference honors last year. Both Savannah Mitchell and Cheyanna Kempel have seven wins in singles play. Ellie Bender owns a 2-12 record in the top singles' spot.
Northwestern Notes...The Red Raiders have lost four straight matches to fall to seventh place in the GPAC with a 2-4 record, 4-11 overall. Since earning wins over Mount Marty and College of Saint Mary, Northwestern has lost to Midland, Hastings, Nebraska Wesleyan and Morningside.
Valerie Robinson leads the team in wins in singles play, owning an 8-7 record at the #2 spot. She is 4-4 at #2 doubles along with partner McKayla Johnson. Daniela Lozano and Kendra McGinnis are both 5-10 in singles play at #1 and #3, respectively.
Up Next...The top six teams in the regular season will advance to play in the GPAC postseason tournament, beginning on May 6 in Fremont, Neb.
