Red Raiders Host Morningside In Home Opener

Game Time...Northwestern College will host Morningside in its home and conference opener on Thursday, April 10 at 4pm. The Red Raiders are 3-5 overall this season while Morningside is an undefeated 3-0 in GPAC play, 6-4 overall. 

All-Time...Northwestern is 1-6 all-time against Morningside, losing 6-3 to the Mustangs last year. 

Scouting Morningside...The Mustangs have won four straight matches, earning three conference wins (Concordia, Doane and Midland) along with a non-conference victory over Buena Vista. They are in first place in the GPAC with a 3-0 record, 6-4 overall. 

Larry Mason is in his seventh season as the head coach of both the women's and men's tennis programs. He returns four players off a 2013 team that finished second in the GPAC with a 6-1 record, 12-9 overall.

Both Katie Hanson and Megan Solberg return after earning first team all-conference honors in 2013. Solberg also earned first team accolades in doubles play along with partner Audri Swisher. Hanson earned honorable mention all-league honors in doubles play. Amanda Przymus also returns after earning honorable mention honors in singles and first team accolades in doubles. 

Northwestern News and Notes...Making their GPAC debut, Northwestern is 3-5 so far this season in non-conference play. They split their last two matches, defeating Simpson but lost a close match to Central. 

Valerie Robinson leads the team with a 5-2 record, played all at the #2 singles spot. She is 4-4 overall in doubles' play but has a 4-2 record with Amanda Bueltel at #2 doubles. Bueltel is 4-3 playing in the #5 singles spot  and 4-4 overall in doubles play. Frankie Eszes owns a 3-5 record in the top singles' spot and needs one more win to match the program record for career wins, held by Theresa Maly who went 31-26 from the 1999-2002 seasons. Eszes is 4-4 in doubles this year and also needs just one more win to match the all-time record for wins, held by Beth Klemz (31-28) from 1999-2002.
