Game Time...Northwestern College resumes its 2014 season as they play a pair of non-conference matches against Simpson College and Central College this weekend. They will play Simpson at 3:30pm in Indianola and will play Central on Saturday morning.
All-Time...Northwestern is 1-4 all-time against Simpson and 2-3 all-time against Central.
Scouting Simpson...The Storm went 1-12 last fall, 1-6 in Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Their lone win was a 6-3 victory over Dubuque. They are making their spring season debut.
Lindsay Chase is in her sixth season as the head women's tennis coach at Simpson. Prior to this year, she guided the Storm to back-to-back 10-win seasons, finishing fourth in the league last year with a 6-4 record.
Kelli Ehrhardt leads the team with an 8-5 singles record, mainly at the #3 spot. Kelli Greiner is 5-7 in singles play and combines with Ehrhardt for a 9-4 doubles' record, all played at the #2 spot.
Scouting Central...The Dutch finished the fall season with an 8-3 record, losing its final two matches last September to Luther and Wartbug. They are 2-0 against NAIA teams, defeating both Grand View and Morningside. Central is making its spring season debut against Northwestern and like Simpson, is an NCAA D-III institution and a member of the IIAC.
Steve Tyler is in his fifth season as the head coach of the women's tennis program and also serves as the men's coach. He guided the Dutch to an 8-4 record last year.
Angie Allgood leads the Dutch with a 9-2 singles' record, all played at the top spot. She earned all-conference honors last fall. Allgood combined with Megan Davis to go 8-3 at the top doubles spot. Davis, also an all-conference pick, posted a 6-5 record at the #2 singles spot. Katie Todd is 9-2, all played in the #6 singles spot.
Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders have lost two straight matches and brings a 2-4 overall record into the weekend. They lost to Brevard and Dalton State over their spring break trip to South Carolina earlier this month. Northwestern has wins over Grand View and Bethany.
Frankie Eszes owns a 2-4 record in singles' play this year and the junior is just two wins shy of matching the program's record for career wins (31). The junior is 29-14 all-time, currently the third most wins in the program's history. Eszes is a two-time all-conference player and earned All-American honors in 2012. Val Robinson leads this year's team with a 3-2 record in singles' play and is 2-2 in doubles along with partner Amanda Bueltel.
