The Event...Northwestern College will play in the GPAC Women's Fall Golf Qualifier, the first of two, 36-hole events that will determine the GPAC team and individual champions, early this week at Willow Run Golf Club in Sioux Falls, S.D. Monday's first round is scheduled to begin around noon while Tuesday's second round will begin at 10am. The final 36-holes will be played in the spring at Woodland Hills in Eagle, Neb.
About the GPAC Championship/Format...This marks the first year of the two-day, 36-hole format. Also new in 2016-17 is the fact that the qualifiers are being played on neutral courses (courses that do not serve as "home" to any GPAC schools) and the men and women will play on the same course over the same two-day period.
All 11 women's teams will compete in the 72-hole championship with the team champion and overall individual champion moving on to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship.
Last Year's GPAC Championship...Northwestern College finished seventh out of 12 teams at the four-round, 72-hole GPAC Championship that concluded at the Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell, S.D.
The Red Raiders finished with a 72-hole score of 1,448 (363/362/356/367), 19 strokes in back of sixth place Concordia.
Dakota Wesleyan (1,349) won the team title by five strokes over second place Morningside (1,354).
Anna Perrenoud finished just outside the top 15 and was the top Red Raider, finishing in a tie for 18th place with a 72-hole total of 352 (85/92/88/87). Courtney Hummel tied for 22nd overall with a 358 (90/85/90/93) and Mallory Palsma finished 31st with a 372 (95/93/94/90). Jamie Altena (T32nd-374) and Mikayla Christensen(34th-377) round out the NWC golfers.
Lauren Fitts of Dakota Wesleyan won the individual championship with a 310 (+23). Allison Depko (Midland) finished second with a 325, followed by Amy Ahlers (Concordia) at 326.
Line-Up/By the Numbers...Northwestern College has finished in the top five in all four of its events played this fall. They finished third at both the Mount Marty and Northwestern events and placed fifth at the Lila Frommelt and CSM/Midland Invites. They have a team scoring average of 355.
