The Event...Northwestern College will compete in the first GPAC women's golf qualifier, hosted by Dordt at The Ridge in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Red Raiders will begin play on hole 10 at 12:40pm along with players from Nebraska Wesleyan and Briar Cliff.
Teams Competing...All 11 Great Plains Athletic Conference members will bring teams to the event.
Format...This is the first of four, 18-hole rounds that will determine the GPAC team and individual champion. The winner will advance to play in the NAIA women's golf championship in the spring. Two of the rounds will be this fall (Sept. 15 and Oct. 6) and two of the rounds will be played in the spring.
Last Year's GPAC Championship...Northwestern finished in a solid second place with a four-round total of 1,367, trailing only six-time GPAC Champion Dakota Wesleyan with a 1,308. The Red Raiders held a 52 stroke advantage over third place Morningside (1,419).
Emma Wynja was the top Red Raider finisher, placing sixth with a four-round total of 333, 15 strokes in back of GPAC individual champion Lauren Fitts (DWU). Taylor Malenke placed seventh overall with a 336 and Jessica Locker tied for 11th with a 344. Betsy Wallin was the final NWC golfer who played all four rounds and finished 17th with a 360. All four Red Raider golfers earned all-conference honors last spring.
Northwestern Line-Up...Northwestern has a team scoring average of 349.8 and has finished in the top five in all three meets this season. Emma Wynja (82.5), Betsy Wallin (87.3), Jessica Locker (88.0), Courtney Hummel (94.0) and Elizabeth DeJong (95.0) will be the participants for NWC.
Up Next...Northwestern will play in the two-day Briar Cliff Invite on September 25-26 in Sioux City, Iowa.
