Red Raiders Open Spring Season At Midland

The Event...Northwestern College will open its spring season at the Midland Women's Golf Invite held Tuesday at the Fremont Country Club in Fremont, Neb. Teams will tee-off at 11am. 

Teams Competing...Most of the conference teams are scheduled to compete, including Northwestern, Briar Cliff, Morningside, Concordia, Dakota Wesleyan, Doane and Hastings. 

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders finished the fall season with a 342.6 scoring average, currently the lowest season average in the history of the women's golf program. They won two of the five events played, taking first at the Red Raider Fall Invite and Briar Cliff Open. Northwestern finished second in the other three meets and are currently in second place in the four-round GPAC Qualifier.

Senior Taylor Malenke leads the Red Raiders with an 82.9 scoring average and won one meet last fall. A three-time all-conference pick, Malenke placed in the top five four times last fall and has an 87.4 career average. Junior Emma Wynja has an 83.4 scoring average and finished in the top 10 in all five meets played last fall. Wynja, a two-time all-conference pick, has a career scoring average of 84, currently the top average in the program's history. Betsy Wallin (88.1), Courtney Hummel (89.5), Elizabeth DeJong (90.3) and Jessica Locker (90.7) are the other top golfers. 

Up Next...Northwestern will next compete in the two-day, 36-hole Nebraska Wesleyan Invite on April 14-15 in Lincoln, Neb.
