The Event...Northwestern College will send its women's golf team to compete in the Briar Cliff Fall Invite on Saturday, Sept. 14. Teams will tee off at 10am at Two Rivers Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa.
Teams Competing...At least six schools will send golfers to compete, including Briar Cliff, Dordt, Midland, Morningside and Northwestern.
Last Time Out...The Red Raiders shot a school-record 328 and are in second place after the first round of the GPAC Qualifier played at the Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell ,S.D., on Sept. 10. The 328 is five strokes better than their previous record of 333 recorded twice, most recently in 2011 at the Dordt Invite. Northwestern is 12 shots in back of first round leader, Dakota Wesleyan, with a 316. Morningside (343), Mount Marty (352) and Hastings (354) round out the top five.
Taylor Malenke led Northwestern and is in third place after Tuesday's round with a 79 (+7), one shot off her career high. Emma Wynja is tied for fourth with an 80 (+8) and Jessica Locker carded a career-best 83 and is in 12th place overall. Betsy Wallin (86) and Courtney Hummel (87) are tied for 16th and tied for 18th, respectively.
Red Raider News and Notes...In three events played this fall, Northwestern has a scoring average of 348.5 and has finished among the top two teams in all three. They won their own meet, the Red Raider Invite, and then finished second in the Morningside Fall and GPAC Qualifier #1.
Junior Emma Wynja leads Northwestern with an 81.7 scoring average and three top-five finishes. Senior Taylor Malenke is second on the team with an 84.7 average, placing in the top five in two events. Jessica Locker (88.0), Betsy Wallin (88.3) and Courtney Hummel (90.0) round out the top five scorers.
Up Next...Northwestern will play in the two-day Dakota Wesleyan Invite on Sept. 27-28, held at the Lakeview Golf Club (Friday) and Wild Oak (Saturday).
