The Event...The Northwestern College women's golf team resumes its 2013 fall season as they head to Mitchell, S.D. to play in the two-day, 36-hole Palace City Invite, hosted by Dakota Wesleyan. Friday's round will be played at Lakeview Golf Club and begin at 1pm while Saturday's round is at Wild Oak Golf Club, beginning at 9am.
Teams Competing...Among the teams competing are Dakota Wesleyan, Dordt, Briar Cliff, Midland and Northwestern.
Last Year...Northwestern finished second out of eight teams at last year's Classic. The Red Raiders shot a season best 338 on day two and finished the 36-hole event with a 691, 16 shots in back of team champion, Dakota Wesleyan.
Emma Wynja won the two-day event, earning medalist honors after winning a one-hole playoff against Emily Elliott (Iowa Central). Wynja carded a 163 (80/83). Leigh Van Hove was the Red Raiders second golfer, shooting a career-best 168 and finishing in fourth place. Taylor Malenke tied for 13th with a 179, followed by Betsy Wallin (T18th-181) and Jessica Locker (T27th-190).
Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders have a scoring average of 346.7 in four meets this season, winning two (Red Raider and Briar Cliff) while placing second in two (GPAC and Morningside). They have recorded two of the lowest team scores in the program's history already this year (328-GPAC and 334-Red Raider)
Junior Emma Wynja leads the team with an 82.3 scoring average and has finished in the top five in all four events. Wynja has a career scoring average of 83.9. Taylor Malenke is second on the team with an 84.3 average, winning the BCU Invite last time out and recording three top five finishes. Malenke has an 87.8 career average. Betsy Wallin is third on the team with an 88.3 average and two top 10 finishes. Elizabeth De Jong (89.3) and Jessica Locker (89.5) round out the Red Raider line-up for the weekend.
Up Next...Northwestern will conclude its fall season at the second GPAC Qualifier, held at the Whispering Creek Golf Club on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
