Women's Golf To Play In the Final Two GPAC Qualifiers

The Event...Northwestern College will compete in the final two rounds of the four round GPAC Qualifier on Friday, April 26 at Two Rivers Golf Club in Dakota Dunes, S.D. All teams will play 36-holes on Friday due to the third round being snowed up earlier this month in Hastings, Neb. Two Rivers is set up for par-70 and 4,711 yards in women’s play. Northwestern will begin third round play at 8am and will begin the fourth and final round at 2pm.

Teams Competing...All 11 of the conference teams will compete in the GPAC Qualifier.

Format...The GPAC golf championship consists of four, 18-hole rounds played at four different sites throughout the year, two during the fall season and two in the spring. The top team and top individual after the four rounds win the GPAC Championship and earns the automatic bid to the NAIA women's golf championship held in May. 

Recap of First Two Qualifiers...Northwestern is in second place after two rounds (36 holes) with a 714, trailing defending GPAC champion Dakota Wesleyan by 29 shots (685). The Red Raiders finished second in the first round with a 354 played at Landsmeer last fall. They followed with a third place finish in the second round with a 360, played in Lincoln, Neb. Morningside is in third place with a 730, followed by Nebraska Wesleyan (751) and Doane (759). 

Emma Wynja is the top Red Raider golfer and stands in fourth place overall with a 170 (83/87), eight shots in back of the leader, Lauren Fitts (DWU). Taylor Kline is tied for seventh with a 179 (85/94) and Betsy Wallin is in 11th place with a 182 (92/90). Leigh Van Hove (185) and Jess Locker (186) are tied for 15th and 17th, respectively.

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders have finished in the top three in seven of the eight events played, winning two meets last fall: Midland and Briar Cliff. They own a team scoring average of 355.2. 

Sophomore Emma Wynja leads the team with an 83.3 scoring average, with two first place and six top 10 finishes. Taylor Kline has a 90.7 scoring average and has four top 10 finishes. Betsy Wallin has two top 10 finishes and has an average of 91.3. Jess Locker is fourth on the team with a 93.3 average and has two top 10 and one top five finish. Leigh Van Hove rounds out the Red Raider line-up with a 93.9 scoring average.

Up Next...Northwestern will host its spring invite on Tuesday, April 30 at Landsmeer Golf Club beginning at noon.
