Women's Golf To Play in Central Invite

The Event...The Northwestern College women's golf team will make its spring season debut this weekend at the Central Invite. Due to the weather, it will now be just a one-day, 18-hole event played at the par 72, 5,800-yard Bos Landen Golf Course in Pella, Iowa. It will be a shotgun start at 10:00am.

Last Time...Northwestern College finished third in the second GPAC Qualifier round held last fall at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb. The Red Raiders continued to be in second place in the four-round, 72-hole GPAC Championship that will conclude this spring.

Northwestern shot a 360 on the par 71, 5,965 course, 12 shots in back of second place Morningside. First round leader, Dakota Wesleyan, won the second round with a 333. Nebraska Wesleyan (362) and Doane (366) round out the top five.

Emma Wynja was the top Red Raider golfer, finishing in a tie for eighth with an 87. The sophomore shot a 45 on the front nine and closed with a 42. Betsy Wallin tied for 15th with a 90 (47/43) and Leigh Van Hove tied for 18th with a 91 (52/39). Jessica Locker (T22nd-92) and Taylor Kline (T27-94) round out the Northwestern scores.

Northwestern remains in second place overall after two rounds of play, with a 36-hole total of 714 (354/360). Dakota Wesleyan is the leader after two rounds with a 685 (352/333) and Morningside is in third place with a 730 (382/348).

Wynja is fourth overall with a 170 (83/87), eight strokes in back of the leader, Lauren Fitts (DWU), with a 182. Kline is tied for seventh overall with a 179 (85/94) and Wallin is 11th with a 182 (92/90). Van Hove (T15-94/91) and Locker (T17-94/92) are the other Northwestern scores.

Red Raider Notes and Line-Up...Northwestern finished first or second in five of the six events played last fall, recording a team score average of 354.1. They won both the Midland and Briar Cliff Invites. 

Emma Wynja leads the team with an 83.2 scoring average and won two meets last fall. She has five top-10 finishes. Junior Taylor Kline is second on the team with a 90.8 scoring average, recording three top-10 finishes. Betsy Wallin has an average of 90.9 while Leigh Van Hove (92.7) and Jess Locker (93.2) round out the top five.
