Red Raiders Host Dakota Wesleyan

Game Time...Northwestern College will host the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers on Wednesday, Feb. 11, with tip-off scheduled for 2pm. The Raiders are currently in fifth place in the GPAC with a 9-7 record, 15-9 overall. Dakota Wesleyan is two games behind and sitting eighth in the GPAC with a 7-10 record, 14-13 overall. All-Time...Northwestern owns a 36-13 all-time advantage in the series against DWU. The Red Raiders are 10-1 over the last 11 match-ups, going 1-1 against the Tigers last year, each team winning on its home court. 

Scouting DWU...The Tigers are currently in eighth place in the GPAC with a 7-10 record, 14-13 overall. Since the new year, the Tigers are 4-7 and are coming off of a 76-71 loss to Concordia on the road. The Tigers are 2-1 over their last three games, earning wins over Doane and Dordt,

Jason Christensen is in his fifth season as the DWU head coach and returns two starters and seven players off a 2013-14 team that finished sixth in the GPAC with a 10-10 record. They lost to Morningside in the first round of the GPAC tournament to end the year at 18-13. 

Dakota Wesleyan averages 71 points per game, shooting 44% from the field and sit second in the GPAC shooting 34% from beyond the arc. Defensively, the Tigers are giving up 68 points per game.

Returning starter Celeste Beck, a second team all-GPAC pick last year, leads the team in scoring, putting in 12.1 points per game. Beck is the Tigers' top perimeter threat with 71 three-pointers, shooting 38% from beyond the arc, and leads the team with 111 assists. Erica Herrold scores 11.8 points per game, shooting better than 48.2% from the field. Katie Johnson, a second team all-GPAC pick last year, averages eight points and a team-best five rebounds per game. Gabby Frybko, a transfer from Colorado State, scores 7.2 per game and is second on the team with 36 three-pointers.

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders have won three of their last four games to climb to fifth place in the GPAC with a 9-7 record, 15-9 overall. They continue to earn votes in the NAIA D-II coaches' poll and are coming off of a 76-71 win over the Doane Tigers on the road.

Northwestern averages 75 points per game while shooting 44% from the field, which leads all others in the GPAC. Defensively, they are giving up 70 points per game to their opponents on average.

Karen Ettleman leads the conference in scoring, averaging 21.6 points per game, ranking sixth in the NAIA. Ettleman leads the team in rebounding (5.9) and is shooting 47% from the field. She earned GPAC player of the week honors for the second time this season after scoring a career-high 36 points in the win over Doane. Paige O'Neal scores 12.5 points per game and sits second in the GPAC in assists (118). Arianne Gesell scores 8.8 points per game and Morgan VanDerSloot (6.9) and Katy Kuiper (5.7) are the top perimeter shooters with 30 and 20 three-pointers, respectively.

Up Next...Northwestern will host the Concordia Bulldogs this Saturday, Feb. 14, with game time set for 2:00 p.m. at the Bultman Center.
