Ettleman's Double-Double Leads Northwestern Past Mount Marty

Karen Ettleman recorded her third career double-double in leading Northwestern to a 69-61 road win over Mount Marty in a GPAC match-up played tonight in Yankton, S.D. The Red Raiders earned their first league win, improving to 1-3 in the GPAC, 5-4 overall.

Ettleman scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Northwestern scoring effort. The senior also dished out six assists and three steals while making 9-of-24 field goal attempts.

The lead switched hands four times over the opening 10 minutes until the Red Raiders outscored Mount Marty 11-3 over a four minute stretch to open up a 23-19 lead. A jumper by Ettleman put NWC on top 30-24 but a Alex Kneeland three-pointer moments later cut the lead in half, 30-27, where the score stayed at the break.

Back-to-back lay-ups by Arianne Gesell gave Northwestern its largest lead (44-37) at the 12:30 mark but a lay-up by Cassidy Gebhart ignited a 16-2 Mount Marty run, giving the Lancers their largest advantage, 53-46 with six minutes left. Still down seven (55-48), the Red Raiders outscored the hosts 13-3 to retake the lead 61-58 after a jumper by Paige Danner. Kneeland converted an old-fashioned three-point play to tie it at 61 but Northwestern closed the game on an 8-0 run, holding Mount Marty scoreless over the final three minutes.

Northwestern shot 40% for the game, 23% (3-for-13) from beyond the arc. Gesell added a career-high 17 points, making 8-of-her-9 field goal attempts. Danner netted a career-best eight points coming off the bench. Northwestern held a big 53-40 advantage on the boards, led by Ettleman (12) and Claudia Larsen (8).

Mount Marty was led by Kneeland with 18 points and April Winne with 13. Raquel Sutera chipped in nine points and 11 boards. Mount Marty shot 38% for the game but was held to just 33% from beyond the arc (7-for-21).
