Red Raiders Host Martin Luther

Game Time...Seventh-ranked Northwestern plays host to Martin Luther in a non-conference women's basketball match-up on Tuesday night, Nov. 19. Tip-off at the Bultman Center is scheduled for 7pm. All-Time...This is just the second match-up between the two teams, playing last year for the first time. Northwestern defeated the Knights 102-57 last year in a game played at the Bultman Center. 

Scouting Martin Luther...The Knights are 0-2 this season, losing to both Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Wisconsin-Stevens Point by double digit margins. Martin Luther is affiliated with the NCAA D-III and is a member of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. 

Larry Czer begins his seventh season as the Knights head coach. Last year, he guide MLC to a 12-14 overall record, losing in the conference championship game. They were 9-5 in league play and return four starters and seven players off last year's squad. The Knights were picked to finish fourth out of eight teams in the conference preseason poll. 

Martin Luther is scoring 48 points per game, shooting 29% from the field and 23% from beyond the arc. Defensively, the Knights are giving up 76 points per game and are outrebounded by a -13 margin. Junior Hannah Hackbarth, a second team all-conference selection last year, averages a team-high 13 points per game. Hackbarth, who set the school record with 59 three-pointers in 2012-13, is shooting 46% from beyond the arc and leads the team with six three-pointers this season. Senior Rebecca Engelbrecht, another returning starter, scores 9.5 points and pulls down a team-best six boards per game. Alex Anthon, an honorable mention all-conference pick last year, leads the team with seven assists and scores 8.5 points per game. 

Northwestern News and Notes...The seventh-ranked Red Raiders are off to a perfect 5-0 start this season, outscoring teams by over 35 points. They have three non-conference wins, two over ranked teams (Jamestown and Valley City State) and then earned two road wins in conference play last week. 

Northwestern averages 100.2 points per game, third most in the NAIA. They are fifth in the nation in field goal percentage (49%), third in rebounding (+15) and ninth in defending against the three-pointer, holding teams to just 22%. The Red Raiders are giving up 65 points per game. 

Senior Alli Engebretson scores 21.8 points per game and leads the team with 20 three-pointers, shooting 47% from beyond the arc. She has scored in double figures in every game this year. Karen Hutson scores 21.4 points per game, shooting 64% from the field. The junior also has scored in double figures in all five games. Senior Samantha Kleinsasser averages 14.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game and has three double-doubles this season. Cassidy Breon (9.6) and Mackenzie Small (8.6) are the other top scorers. 

Up Next...Northwestern will host Dakota State on Wednesday night, Nov. 20, in a make-up game from Nov. 5.
