Battle Of Undefeated Teams On Saturday

Game Time...A match-up of undefeated teams as Northwestern heads to Hastings, Neb. to play the Broncos in a GPAC contest on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2pm. Northwestern, ranked seventh in the NAIA preseason poll, is 1-0 in conference play, 4-0 overall. Hastings is playing in its conference opener and is 5-0 overall. All-Time...Northwestern trails the all-time series 19-27 but is 7-3 over the last 10 match-ups against the Broncos. Last year, the teams split during the regular season, each winning on its home court. 

Scouting Hastings...The Broncos are a perfect 5-0 this season as they begin conference play, defeating Culver-Stockton, Dakota State, Tabor, Kansas Wesleyan and Friends.

Carrie Hofstetter begins her second season as the Broncos head coach and returns three starters and nine players off a 2012-13 squad that finished tied for sixth in the GPAC at 10-10, 15-16 overall. They lost to top-seed Morningside in the GPAC quarterfinals to end the season. Hofstetter was a standout player for the Broncos and also served as an assistant coach at Fort Hayes State. 

Hastings averages 75 points per game, shooting 38% from the field. They have 22  three-pointers this season and hold a +9 advantage on the boards. The Broncos are giving up 62 points per game and rank eighth in the NAIA with 21 blocked shots. 

Cami Bruckman, one of three returning starters, leads the team in scoring at 17.4 points per game. Jamie Van Kirk, a junior guard, scores 15 points per game and leads the team with seven three-pointers, shooting 24% from beyond the arc. Senior Laurel Zwiener returns to start in the frontcourt and averages 11 points and eight rebounds per game. The 6-4 post player has nine blocked shots this season.

Up Next...Northwestern will host back-to-back non-conference games early next week, beginning with Martin Luther on Tuesday night at 7pm. They will then play Dakota State on Wednesday night at 5:30pm.
