Kendra De Jong scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds in leading seventh-ranked Northwestern to a 71-57 road win over (RV) Mount Marty tonight in GPAC women's basketball. The Red Raiders improve to 13-4 in the GPAC, 19-6 overall with three games left in the regular season. Mount Marty falls to 9-8 in the GPAC, 15-11 overall.

Northwestern closed the first half on a 12-4 run to take a 35-27 advantage at halftime. Mount Marty then outscored the Red Raiders 12-2 to start the second half and tied the game at 37 with 15 minutes remaining. Northwestern built the lead back up to five (52-47) and then outscored the Lancers 15-6 over a five minute stretch to put the game away.

Northwestern used constant pressure on the defensive side and had the Lancers frustrated all night, holding one of the best three-point shooting teams in the NAIA to just 16% (3-for-19). They limited MMC to just four field goals over the final 10 minutes during the decisive run to close the game.

The Red Raiders shot 54% for the game (30/56) and 42% from beyond the arc (5/12). De Jong netted a team-high 16 points, making 8-of-13 field goal attempts, and pulled down nine rebounds. Kami Kuhlmann scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out a game-high four assists. Karen Hutson scored nine points off the bench while Val Kleinjan, Mackenzie Small and Samantha Kleinsasser added eight points each. Northwestern dominated the glass, 43-27, and dished out 16 assists for the game.

Mount Marty shot 36% for the game and was led by April Winne with 17 points and Hannah Youngberg chipped in 16. Taylor Forsch, the GPAC's second leading three-point shooter, was held to just two points and went 0-for-4 from beyond the arc.

Northwestern returns home on Saturday to host Doane for Senior/Parent's Day.
