Third-ranked Northwestern used an early 15-3 run to get a lead and held off a late rally to defeat Mount Marty 89-80 in the GPAC women's basketball quarterfinals. The Red Raiders, the second seed in the postseason tournament, improved to 25-4 overall and will host third-seed and ninth-ranked Briar Cliff on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 3:00pm.

The Raiders never trailed against MMC, jumping out to an early 6-0 lead. The Lancers were within three but Northwestern went on a 15-3 run and opened up a 33-18 advantage with six minutes left in the first half. Becca Hurley scored seven points during the run and Val Kleinjan capped off the rally with back-to-back three-pointers. Northwestern held a 45-36 lead at intermission.

Coach Woudstra's squad built the lead up to as much as 16 in the second half (64-48) and held a 12-point advantage with eight minutes to go. The Lancers, however, mounted a huge comeback and after a Michelle Amundson three-point play, were within two, 78-76, with four minutes left. Northwestern closed the game on an 11-4 run behind a couple of key baskets by Randa Hulstein and Kami Kuhlmann to preserve the win.

Northwestern shot 53% for the game and were led by Becca Hurley who matched her season high with 31 points. The junior guard made 11-of-15 field goal attempts, 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, and dished out seven assists. Randa Hulstein netted a season-high 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. She was just one assist shy of a triple-double with nine assists. Allison Hulst and Kami Kuhlmann scored 11 and and 10 points, respectively.

Mount Marty was led by the duo of Michelle Amundson and Jenny Miller who scored 24 and 22 points, respectively.

The Raiders will play Briar Cliff for the third time this season on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 3:00pm in the Bultman Center.
