#2 Northwestern handed Mount Marty its first loss of the season with an 81-68 win in GPAC women's basketball Tuesday night in Yankton, S.D. The Red Raiders won its fifth straight game and improved to 6-1 overall, 2-0 in the GPAC. Mount Marty falls to 8-1 and 1-1 in the GPAC.
Northwestern trailed at intermission, 46-40, as Mount Marty shot a blistering 69% in the opening half. The Lancers made 7-of-11 three-pointers in the first 20 minutes.
The Red Raiders began the second half on a 9-3 run to tie it at 49. Mount Marty surged ahead once again, 57-54, until NWC tied it at 61. Northwestern followed with an 11-3 spurt and outscored the host Lancers 20-7 over the final six minutes to record the win.
Becca Hurley led three Raider players in double figures with 24 points, 14 in the second half. Kendra De Jong netted a career-high 22 points and registered nine rebounds and four assists. Kami Kuhlmann added 20 points as well.
