In a battle of ranked teams, fifth-ranked Northwestern defeated #21 Mount Marty, 69-60, in GPAC women's basketball last night in Yankton, S.D. The Red Raiders improve to 8-1 in the GPAC, 14-5 overall while the Lancers fall to 5-4 in the league, 14-7 overall.

The teams played a very close first half with seven ties and four lead changes and the game was all knotted up at 31 at intermission. Kami Kuhlmann scored 14 points in the first half to lead NWC.

The Raiders fell behind early in the second half but responded with a 19-2 spurt  which gave NWC control of the game. Becca Hurley, Anna Anderson and Kami Kuhlmann each scored five points during the decisive run. Northwestern sealed the game with four straight free throws down the stretch to earn the road win.

Coach Woudstra's squad shot 44% for the game and shot an impressive 80% (16/20) from the foul line. Kami Kuhlmann scored 21 points to lead the Raiders, 14 coming in the first half. Becca Hurley added 16 points while Amy Kallemeyn added 11 rebounds.

Mount Marty was led by Michelle Amundson with 19 points, followed by Katelynn Kunz with 15. The Lancers shot just 33% for the game.

The Raiders will head to Lincoln, Neb. to play Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, Jan. 24 for the second of a three-game road trip.
