The Event... The women's golf team resumes play this afternoon at the two-day Briar Cliff Invitational held at the Two Rivers Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa. Play gets underway at 10:00 am.

The Teams... A number of GPAC teams are scheduled to compete, including the Raiders, Briar Cliff, Morningside and USF.

Last Year...Northwestern finished in sixth place out of 10 teams with a two-total of 755. The meet was hosted by Briar Cliff and played at Two Rivers Golf Club.

Northwestern shot a 755, 10 shots in back of fifth place Morningside. Dakota Wesleyan won the team championship with a 658, followed by the University of South Dakota (702), Baker (712) and Briar Cliff (719).

Coach Hoftyzer's squad was led by sophomore Sara Horn who finished tied for 18th overall with a 182. Horn carded a 92 in the first round and a 90 in the final. Lisa Wiersma tied for 21st place with a 184. Like Horn, she shot a 90 in the final round after a 94 in the first. Freshman Kym Harrington placed 25th with a 190 and was the top finisher in the individual medalist division.

Red Raider Notes... In four meets this season, Coach Hoftyzer's squad is averaging a team score of 349 with a low of 340. They finished in the top five in all four events, placing second in one (Lady Reiver), third in one (Red Raider) and two fourth place finishes.

Individually, Northwestern is led by junior Maggie Achterhof who has three top-10 finishes this season. Achterhof placed second in both the Red Raider and Dana Invites and leads the team with an 81.5 stroke average. She carded the two lowest rounds of the season (77, 80). Andria Hinz carries a stroke average of 88.5 and finished in the top 15 twice. The sophomore's best finish was at the Reiver Fall Classic (T8). Senior Anne Eberline has come on strong over the last two matches with a pair of top 15 finishes. She holds an 89.5 average and shot a career-best 86 last Friday at the Reiver Fall Classic. Sara Horn is fourth on the team with a 93.5 average and placed in the top 25 three times. Kayla Johnson (102.5) and Caitlyn DeCock (104) are the other top players for Coach Hoftyzer's squad.

Up Next... Northwestern will play in the first round of the GPAC Championship next Tuesday, Sept. 15 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
