Iowa Westsern CC-Reiver Fall Classic

The Event... The Red Raider women's golf team resumes their 2008 fall season this afternoon as they play in the Reiver Fall Classic hosted by Iowa Western Community College. Play will begin at 1:00 pm with a shotgun start.

The Teams... Eight schools will comprise the tournament field, including four GPAC teams. The list of teams includes: Iowa Western CC, Des Moines Area CC, Ellsworth CC, North Iowa Area CC, Nebraska Wesleyan, Northwestern, Doane and Dana.

Last Time Out... Northwestern hosted the Red Raider Classic on August 28 at Landsmeer Golf Club. Coach Hoftyzer's squad placed fourth and eighth out of 13 teams with a team score of 352. Carrie Spree led NWC as she tied for fifth place overall out of 70 golfers with an 81. Maggie Achterhof carded an 87 and tied for 16th overall. Andria Hinz and Lisa Wiersma carded an 89 and 90, respectively.

Red Raider Notes... In two meets this season, Carrie Spree and Maggie Achterhof have led the Red Raiders with a stroke average of 84.5 and 87. Spree has one top five finish while Achterhof has one top 10 finish to her credit. Kelsey Shiflett is averaging 89.5 with an 11th place finish at the USF Invite. Rachael Koenigsburg and Anne Eberline have posted 93.5 and 94.5 averages this season. Senior Kara Ritchie has one top 10 finish this season; she tied for eighth at the USF Invite.

Next up... The Red Raiders will next compete on Monday, Sept. 8 at the Morningside Invitational. This will be the first of four conference qualifier meets of the 2008-09 season in which the scores will continue from meet to meet. The top two teams once all four meets have been played will earn the automatic bids to the national tournament. Monday's event will be played at Whispering Creek in Sioux City, Iowa.
