Maggie Achterhof shot a five-over 77 and is tied with two other golfers for fourth place after the first round of the GPAC women's golf championship. The round was played at Elmwood Golf Club in Sioux Falls, S.D. and hosted by the U. of Sioux Falls.
Achterhof shot a 38 on the opening nine and closed out the round with a 39 and recorded her fourth top five finish of the fall season. She is tied with two golfers from Dakota Wesleyan, Danielle Bellet and Heather Love. Michaela Carew (BCU) is the leader after the first round with a two-over 74. She holds a one-stroke lead over Sarah Gilbert (75) of the U. Sioux Falls and a two-shot lead over Kelli Baseley (76) of Dakota Wesleyan.
As a team, Northwestern is tied for fourth, along with Briar Cliff, out of 11 teams with a 344. They are six shots in back of third place Morningside (338). With three players in the top four, Dakota Wesleyan is the round one leader with a 320, two shots in front of the U. of Sioux Falls (322).
Three Raiders, Anne Eberline, Sara Horn and Andria Hinz, carded an 89 and are all tied for 21st place.
The second round will take place on Oct. 5 at Pioneers Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
