Women's Golf Team Announces End-of-the-Year Awards

The Northwestern College women's golf team announced their end-of-the-year awards and Melissa Hisel (Boise, Idaho) earned team MVP honors for the third straight year. Hisel, a four-year letter winner, led the team with an 87.3 stroke average and finished in the top 10 in four of the nine meets she competed in. She earned all-conference honors for the fourth consecutive season.

Rachelle Pederson, a sophomore from Nora Springs, Iowa, earned Most Improved Player honors. Pederson recorded a stroke average of 98 and placed in the top 10 in one meet as a member of both the varsity and junior varsity teams. Maggie Achterhof, a freshman from Orange City, Iowa, was voted Most Promising Freshman after placing in the top 10 in three meets this season. She registered the fourth best average on the team this season (90.1).

Paige Kleinwolterink, a senior from Boyden, Iowa, earned her fourth letter with the women's golf program. She ranked second on the team with an 89.3 average and finished in the top 10 three times this season. Four juniors, Chelsea Harberts, Rachael Koenigsburg, Carrie Spree and Lisa Wiersma, were also repeat letter winners. Harberts (Sibley, Iowa) played in six events this season and placed in the top 25 four times. Koenigsburg, a junior from Sheffield, Iowa, ranked sixth on the team with a 93.2 average and recorded one top 10 finish. Spree was third on the team with a 89.8 average and tied Hisel with four top 10 finishes. Spree is from Parkersburg, Iowa. Wiersma (Hawkeye, Iowa) averaged 97.6 this season.

One sophomore, Kelsey Shiflett (Humboldt, Iowa), is a repeat letter winner. Shiflett carried a 90.1 average this season, tied for fourth best on the team. In addition to Achterhof and Pederson, sophomore Anne Eberline (Grundy Center, Iowa) earned a letter for the first time. Eberline placed in the top 10 two times and registered a stroke average of 93.7.

Sara Horn (Hawkeye, Iowa) and Kara Ritchie (Corning, Iowa) earned participation awards for their play this season.

The Red Raiders are coached by Harold Hoftyzer who completed his 10th season at the helm of the NWC women's golf program.
