The Northwestern College women's golf team is in fifth place after day one at the 2008 Region III Championships played at the Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Red Raiders shot a 362, one shot in back of fourth place Dana and ten strokes behind third place Hastings (352). Dakota Wesleyan is the overall leader with a 337 and leads second place USF (349) by 12 strokes.
The Red Raiders were led by Melissa Hisel and Anne Eberline who tied for 18th place with an 89. Hisel, a senior from Boise, Idaho, carded a 42/47 while Eberline shot a 44/45. Maggie Achterhof shot a 91 (43/48) and tied for 22nd place and Carrie Spree completed day one in a tie for 26th place with a 93.
The second and final round will be completed today at Elmwood Golf Course. The region III champion as well as the individual champion will advance to the NAIA National Tournament played in San Diego, Calif. on May 20-23.
