The Event... Northwestern College is hosting its annual spring women's golf event, the Lady Raider Invite, this afternoon at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City, Iowa. There will be a shotgun start at 11:30am. Landsmeer is a par 72, 5,875 18-hole course.
The Teams...In addition to Northwestern, up to seven teams are scheduled to compete, including Iowa Western CC, Dana, Morningside, Briar Cliff, U. of Sioux Falls, Dakota Wesleyan and the University of South Dakota.
Last Year... Northwestern did not host a regular season event last spring but did host the fourth and final round of the GPAC Championship in 2009. The Red Raiders also hosted the Red Raider Invitational last fall and Coach Hoftyzer's squad finished in third place. The Red Raiders shot a 342 and placed third, seven shot in back of second place Dakota Wesleyan. NWC improved 14 strokes over yesterday's round in Sioux Falls. USF captured the team championship, shooting an impressive 319. The Northwestern College White team placed ninth with a 424.
Maggie Achterhof led the Raiders with a second place finish, carding a five-over 77, her career low as a Red Raider. Senior Rachelle Pedersen tied for ninth overall with an 83. Andria Hinz (90) and Anne Eberline (92) were the other top finishers for NWC. The NWC White team was led by freshman Kayla Johnson who tied for 29th with a 95. Caitlyn DeCock tied for 44th with a 105.
Last Time Out... Northwestern competed in the third round of the GPAC Qualifying Championship on Saturday, April 10 and Maggie Achterhof led the Raiders with an 88 and placed 14th at the River Wilds Golf Course in Blair, Neb. Northwestern finished seventh out of 10 teams in the third round and remain in seventh place with one round left to play.
Achterhof carded a three-over 39 on the front nine and shot a 49 on the back to finish in 14th place with an 88. The junior from Orange City, Iowa is tied for 14th overall with a three-round total of 255. Achterhof is just five shots in back of the 10th place golfer, Kali Gottsleben (USF), with a three-round total of 250. Two Dakota Wesleyan golfers, Danielle Bellet and Kelli Baseley, hold the top two spots with a three-round total of 222 and 236, respectively.
Sara Horn tied for 17th with a 90 (46/44) and is in 20th place overall with a 269, just two shots in back of 19th place. Anne Eberline tied for 23rd with a 92 (46/46) and is tied for 23rd overall with a 277. Rachelle Pedersen (T34-96) and Andria Hinz (T45-104) were the other Northwestern golfers.
Northwestern Line-Up...As a team, the Red Raiders carry a 352.7 stroke average into today's meet. They finished in the top five in all but two events this season, including a second place showing in the Lady Reiver Fall Classic. Individually, Maggie Achterhof leads NWC with an 82.3 average. Rachelle Pedersen has an 89 average while Andria Hinz (90.6), Anne Eberline (92) and Sara Horn (93.1) round out the line-up. Caitlyn DeCock (100.9), Kayla Johnson (103.7) and Leigh Van Hove (105.3) will compete as individuals for Northwestern today.
