Raiders Finish Third at GPAC Championships

The Northwestern College women's golf team finished third after the fourth and final round of the GPAC Championship. The final round was hosted by Northwestern and held at the Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City.

The Raiders shot a 352 in the final round and placed second on the day but were unable to overtake GPAC runner-up USF. Northwestern finished the four rounds with a team score of 1,448, 20 shots in back of second place USF (1,428). Dakota Wesleyan, who led by 55 strokes heading into the final round, added to its lead with a first place finish and a score of 341 on the final day. The Tigers totaled a team score of 1,359. USF placed third in the fourth round with a 355. Both Dakota Wesleyan and USF will advance to play in the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships in May which will be played in Rapid City, South Dakota, at the Meadowbrook Golf Course.

Hastings College held off Briar Cliff to finish in fourth place with a cumulative team score of 1,475. The Chargers were one shot back and placed fifth with a 1,476.

Individually, Danielle Bellet of Dakota Wesleyan earned medalist honors in the fourth round with an 83 (41/42) and won the overall GPAC Championship by seven strokes over teammate Kelli Basely. Basely tied for second on the day with an 85 and finished the overall championship with a 333. Jenny Andrew of Hastings placed third overall with a 339 after she tied for second place in the fourth round with an 85. Kate Becker (Midland Lutheran) and Heather Love (Dakota Wesleyan) round out the top five with a 343 and 344, respectively. The top ten individuals in the four conference meets will receive medals and be designated as all-conference. To qualify for these ten spots the individual must play in all four meets.

Northwestern was led by Carrie Spree and Rachelle Pedersen who tied for second today with an 85. Andria Hinz and Kelsey Shiflett tied for 16th place with a 91 and Maggie Achterhof tied for 24th with a 94.  Overall, Spree just missed out on the 10th spot by two strokes and finished 11th with a 359. Achterhof ended tied for 16th with a 367. Shiflett (T20) and Pedersen (26th) also placed for NWC. Hinz totaled a 181 in the final two rounds.
