The Event... Northwestern serves as the host for the final round of the GPAC Women's Golf Championship on Friday, April 25. The first tee times are at 11:00 am at the Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City, Iowa. This is the final event of the 2009 regular season for the Raider women's golf team. GPAC Release
The Teams... 11 teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference will be competing, including: Briar Cliff, Concordia, Dakota Wesleyan, Dana, Doane, Hastings, Midland Lutheran, Morningside, Nebraska Wesleyan, Northwestern and USF.
At Stake... The top two teams, after the fourth and final qualifier, will advance to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships in May. The NAIA Women's Nationals will be played in Rapid City, South Dakota, at the Meadowbrook Golf Course.
The top ten individuals in the four conference meets will receive medals and be designated as all-conference. To qualify for these ten spots the individual must play in all four meets. Ties will not be broken in the individual standings with the exception of first place.
The Standings... Dakota Wesleyan has a commanding 55-shot lead over second place USF after three rounds of play. The Tigers have a team score of 1,018. USF stands in second place with a 1,073 and is followed by Northwestern in third place with a 1,096. Hastings (1,105) and Briar Cliff (1,108) round out the top five in the team standings.
Two DWU golfers are on top of the leaderboard as Danielle Bellet (+28) holds a four-shot lead over teammate Kelli Baseley (+32). Kate Becker (+38) of Midland Lutheran is in third place, followed closely by Jenny Andrew (+39) of Hastings.

Third Round of GPAC Championship...Northwestern moved up two spots and are in third place after three rounds at the GPAC women's golf championship. The third round was played at the Fremont Golf Club in Fremont, Neb.
The Raiders finished the third round with a 369, good for second place on the day. They moved past both Hastings and Briar Cliff in the overall team standings and are third overall with a three-day total of 1,096. Northwestern also gained six strokes on second place USF and trail the Cougars by 23 (1,073).
Individually, freshman Andria Hinz tied for ninth place in the third round with a 90 (46/44). Maggie Achterhof shot a 91 and placed 11th in the third round. The sophomore is tied for 14th overall with a three-round score of 273, just six shots off of 10th place. Carrie Spree tied for 16th place with a 94 (45/49) and is in 16th place overall (274). Kelsey Shiflett (44/50=94) tied for 16th and is 23rd (283) after three rounds. Rachelle Pedersen finished tied for 32nd (101) and is tied for 31st overall with a 298.
Raider Notes... Northwestern has won two of its four events this spring season as they were victorious at the Grand View Triangular and the Briar Cliff Open. Sophomore Maggie Achterhof (Orange City, Iowa) earned medalist honors in both events and leads the team with an 86.4 average. She has placed in the top 10 in six and in the top 25 in all nine meets this season. Seniors Carrie Spree and Kelsey Shiflett rank second and third, respectively, with averages of 87.7 and 89.9. Spree has placed in the top 10 five times this year and Shiflett has finished in the top 10 four times. Freshman Andria Hinz has had a very good spring season with a top 10 finish in all four events, including a third place finish last time out at the Dana Open. She is averaging an 87 this spring season and holds a 91.8 average over the entire year. Rachelle Pedersen rounds out the NWC lineup and carries a 92.5 average into the final round. The junior has three top 10 finishes this year.
