A 10-2, second half run helped lead third-ranked Northwestern to a 90-74 win over Midland Lutheran Saturday afternoon in GPAC women's basketball. With the win, the Red Raiders improved to 9-2 in the conference, 18-3 overall. Midland Lutheran fell to 2-9, 7-16. Randa Hulstein tallied game-high honors with a season-best 22 points while teammate Becca Hurley netted 21. Kendra DeJong and Kami Kuhlmann scored 15 and 14 points, respectively. Northwestern shot 56% in the second half, 51% for the game. The Raiders shot very well from beyond the arc, converting 9-of-17 three-pointers, led by Hurley with five. Midland Lutheran led early on, when, after a 9-9 tie, the Warriors went on a 5-2 run to take a 15-11 advantage. Northwestern scored five straight points later on and led by as much as five (35-30) until MLC tied the score at 35. Northwestern managed to lead at intermission, 40-37. Northwestern led for the entire second half but did not put Midland Lutheran away until a late 10-2 run put the Raiders up by double digits. The Raiders went on to win 90-74. The Red Raiders travel to Sioux Center to play Dordt on Jan. 30.
