The NAIA released its 2009 All-Americans and Scholar Athletes for women’s basketball and three Raiders earned postseason honors. Sophomore
guard Becca Hurley (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) was named to the first team after averaging 20 points and six rebounds this season. Hurley scored in double figures in 30 of the 33 games she played this season. She also led the team with 83 three-pointers, shooting 36% from beyond the arc and dished out a team-best 111 assists and 67 steals.
Randa Hulstein earned honorable mention All-American honors after leading the GPAC with 11.7 boards per game. The junior from Sioux Center, Iowa, also averaged 14.2 points per game and registered 15 double-doubles this season. Hulstein shot 54% from the field and led the team with 36 blocked shots. She was also named first team All-American in volleyball this past season.
Both Hurley and Hulstein were named to the NAIA All-Tournament team.
Two Raiders, Anna Anderson (Chariton, Iowa) and Becca Hurley (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) were named NAIA Scholar Athlete. Student-athletes must be
nominated by their head coach, have achieved junior academic status and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to be eligible.
Northwestern finished the 2009 season with a 26-9 overall record and qualified for its eighth national tournament. Seeded second, the Raiders defeated Covenant College (Ga.) and third-seeded Sterling (Kan.) in the first two rounds. They followed with an impressive 76-66 win over top-seeded Davenport (Mich.) to advance to the Final Four for the fifth time. The Raiders met up with GPAC rival and top-seeded Morningside for the fourth time this season and lost 63-58.
