Apr 9, 2008

Senior guard Debbie Remmerde (Rock Valley, Iowa) is getting some interest from a few WNBA teams as the annual draft approaches. Two teams in particular, the Detroit Shock and Houston Comets, have made some inquiries concerning the sharp-shooter's availability. The WNBA draft begins this afternoon around 1:00 pm and features three rounds with 14 players selected in each round. There is also a 43rd pick after the first three rounds have concluded. Initial reports have Remmerde being a late third round selection, however, if she goes undrafted, she has been invited to multiple training cRemmerdeamps as an unrestricted free agent.

Remmerde, a 5-9 guard, was part of a Red Raider basketball team that won the 2008 NAIA D-II Women's Championship with a 35-2 overall record. Remmerde closed her career as the all-time leading scorer in NAIA D-II history Remmerde(3,854) and averaged 28.3ppg over the course of her career. She made 97.2% of her free throw attempts over her four years and made a school record 481 three pointers, shooting 54.2% from beyond the arc. Remmerde was named NAIA D-II Player of the Year twice (2006, 2008) and was the most valuable player at the national tournament. The Red Raiders are coached by Earl Woudstra, the 2008 NAIA D-II Coach of the Year.
