Says Head Coach Earl Woudstra, "A team that wants to play for an audience of One and for each other will achieve success." In 13 years at the helm of Northwestern’s women’s basketball program, Head Coach Earl Woudstra has guided six teams to the NAIA national tournament and has had two additional teams finish in the NAIA Top 25 poll. Last year, Coach Woudstra guided his team to a 24-9 record and were regular season co-champions with a 14-4 mark. They qualified for their second consecutive national tournament berth where they lost to national runner-up, College of the Ozarks in the Sweet Sixteen. In 2006, he led the Raiders to a Final Four finish and ended that campaign with a 30-5 record. The 2001-02 season saw NWC finish in the Elite Eight at the national event, an impressive follow-up to the 2000-01 national championship. Northwestern was the national runner-up in 1999-2000 and finished in the Sweet 16 in 1998-99. Woudstra, currently 276-122, was the National Coach of the Year in 2001. “At Northwestern, we want to teach student-athletes to win and lose with grace and class in a competitive atmosphere,” Woudstra said. We also want young women to treat others with respect both on and off the court.” Aside from teaching his players about basketball, Woudstra seeks to develop relationships and skills that will affect student-athletes throughout their lives. He also challenges his players to honor God through the talents and gifts they have been given. A 1978 Northwestern alum, Woudstra is a professor of kinesiology at Northwestern and the assistant director of athletics. He also serves on the Orange City City Council, a duty he has held since 1999. His wife, Karen, is a 1979 NWC grad who played basketball for the Raiders. They have four children: Brandon and his wife Kyndara, Jaime, Brady and Jenna, and granddaughter Jaelye. Woudstra at Northwestern| Year | GPAC (NIAC*) | Overall | |
