Northwestern Women's Basketball Team Signs S.D. All-Stater

Valerie Kleinjan (Volga, S.D.) has signed a letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Northwestern College next year.

The daughter of Russ and Barb, Kleinjan is a 5-8 guard who earned first team all-conference honors four straight years while playing for Sioux Valley High School. The four-year starter averaged 19.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game her senior year. Kleinjan totaled 1,546 points and averaged 16.7 points during her career. She earned first team All-State honors and was a South Dakota Miss Basketball Finalist after leading her team to a third place finish at the Class A state tournament. A member of the National Honor Society, Kleinjan plans to major in biology/health professions at Northwestern.

“Valerie is an outstanding young lady who is motivated to achieve at a high level in everything she does,” commented Head Coach Earl Woudstra. “She is an excellent shooter who also has very good vision and demonstrates a great understanding of the game. We are very excited to have Valerie join us at Northwestern and are confident that she will make contributions to our basketball program and to the Northwestern campus.”
