Boekhout Scores 1,000 Points in Red Raider Basketball Career

Miranda Boekhout became the 22nd player in Northwestern College women's basketball history to score 1,000 points in their career. The senior from Marcus, Iowa, scored 15 points as the Red Raiders (34-2) defeated Morningside College (Iowa), 93-69, in the semifinals of the 2008 NAIA D-II Women's National tournament played in Sioux City, Iowa. With 1:09 left in the first half, Boekhout made a pair of free throws to put NWC up 42-24, the first of which Mirandagiving her 1,000 points. She joins teammates Debbie Remmerde (Rock Valley, Iowa) and Amy Larson (Denison, Iowa) in the 1,000 club. Larson reached the milestone earlier this season. Boekhout also is Northwestern's all-time assist leader with 624.

With the win, Boekhout and the Red Raiders advance to the national championship game where they will take on top-ranked College of the Ozarks (Mo.) at 6:30 pm tomorrow night. Northwestern will be playing in their third championship game, winning the title in 2001 and falling in 2000.
