Seniors Debbie Remmerde were recognized by the NAIA today for their basketball talents. Remmerde was named the NAIA Women's DII Player of the Year for the second time in her career (2005-06) while Larson was named to the an All-American for the first time in her career, making the list as a Third Teamer.
Remmerde, a senior from Rock Valley, Iowa, was named to the NAIA's First Team for the fourth consecutive year and was named the NAIA Women's DII Player of the Year for the second time in three years (2005-06, 2007-08). Remmerde scored 1,122 points this season breaking the DII record of 1,087 she set in 2005-06. Remmerde averaged 30.3 ppg this season and 5.9 rebounds per game. Remmerde also set the NAIA records for FT% this season, converting on .972 of her free attempts, breaking the old record of .967 she set in 2005-06; and field goals made in a season with 404, breaking the old record of 373 she set in 2005-06. Remmerde connected on 55% of her 3PT tries and 61% of her FG attempts this season in leading the Red Raiders to the National Championship.
Larson, a senior from Denison, Iowa, averaged 17.5 ppg for the National Champion Red Raiders along with 2.4 assists and 3.2 rebounds a game. Larson connected on 110 three points FGs this season. The senior guard finished tenth nationally in 3PT FG% at .447. Larson scored 1558 points in her career, increasing her point output each season (183, 338, 388, 649); she finished 25th in the NAIA in scoring this season.
Coach Woudstra was named NAIA DII Women's Basketball Coach of the Year after guiding his team to the National Championship. Woudstra currently is 311-124 (.714) in his coaching career at Northwestern and now has two National Titles under his belt (2000-01, 2007-08) to go along with one runner-up finish (1999-2000). This is the second time Coach Woudstra has been named the NAIA Coach of the Year (2001). This season's team finished with a record of 35-2, only losing to NCAA D2 Augustana and GPAC foe Morningside, whom they defeated three times.
