Crystal Algood, Amy Larson, and Debbie Remmerde were named 2008 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes today by the NAIA. Over 220 division II women's basketball players from across the country have been named 2008 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Student-athletes must be nominated by their head coach, have achieved junior academic status and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Algood, a senior from Brookings, S.D., has been a key inside player for Northwestern the past three seasons. Algood was recently named an All-GPAC Second Team performer for 2007-08. In 2006-07, Algood was named All-GPAC Honorable Mention and was also an NAIA Scholar Athlete that season.
Larson, a senior from Denison, Iowa, has been a starter during most of her career at Northwestern and has three times been named to the All-GPAC squads, this year earning All-GPAC First Team honors. Larson has scored 71 points in four games at the NAIA National Tournament for Northwestern, who will play for the National Championship tonight. In 2006-07 Larson was an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
Remmerde, a senior from Rock Valley, Iowa, was named NAIA Scholar-Athlete also for the second time in her career. Remmerde will be a four time First Team All-American, likely two time NAIA Player of the Year, and NAIA record holder for many scoring/shooting statistics.
