The Red Raiders cruised to a 95-53 win over Briar Cliff in the regular season finale for both teams. Northwestern ends the regular season in second place in the GPAC standings with a 17-1 mark and improve to 27-2 overall. Briar Cliff ends their regular season with a 5-13 league record, 11-19 overall.
It was parent's and senior's day at the Bultman Center and Coach Woudstra's squad did not disappoint their fans, jumping out to a 25-11 lead. They led by 25 at halftime, 49-24, and began the second half with an 11-1 run to go up by 35. The Red Raiders continued to roll as they led by as much as 51 later in the half en route to the 95-53 win.
Northwestern shot 56% for the game, 65% in the decisive first half, and limited the Chargers to 36% from the floor. Debbie Remmerde led a balanced scoring effort with 27 points on 11/16 from the floor. Miranda Boekhout and Amy Larson added 16 points each while Randa Hulstein netted 15 points off the bench. The Red Raiders dominated the glass, 53-18, including 17 on the offensive side. Hulstein ripped down a game-high 10 while Remmerde and Boekhout pulled down seven apiece. Boekhout dished out a team-high 10 assists and Mandy Carr dished out eight and recorded three steals.
Northwestern, who will be seeded second in the upcoming GPAC tournament, will receive a first-round bye and will host a quarterfinal game on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 6:00 pm. The opponent is to be determined.
