TODAY'S MATCH-UP
Briar Cliff enters today’s match-up in a tie for ninth place in the GPAC and is 11-18 overall. The Charges have lost ten consecutive games including an 80-70 loss to Northwestern on Jan. 16th.
Sophomore Cat Nelson leads Briar Cliff in scoring at 15.3 points per game and is seventh in the GPAC. Jamee Phipps averages 12.1 points, 15th in the conference, and is sixth in three point percentage at 42.7%. Nelson and Phipps both average just over five rebounds a game and Tana Colt leads the Chargers in steals with 64. The Chargers have had 11 women start at least one game in their 29 contests.
In their last game Briar Cliff fell to Dordt 51-50 and were outscored 27-19 in the second half. Phipps had 11 points and Nelson had 11 rebounds, both team highs for the Chargers.
RED RAIDER NOTES
Head Coach Earl Woudstra earned his 300th win as the Northwestern College Red Raiders defeated ninth-ranked Concordia (Neb.), 91-77, in a GPAC showdown of top 10 women's basketball teams. Northwestern, ranked second in the NAIA, then won two more games setting up a showdown with third ranked Morningside.
Northwestern fell to Morningside 86-88 on a buzzer-beater by Mustang Roni Miller. Northwestern held a nine point advantage with three minutes left but Morningside fought back to tie the game at 84 with 1:21 remaining and took the lead for good at the buzzer. Northwestern was led by Amy Larson (27 pts) and Debbie Remmerde (24 pts). Randa Hulstein also had 17 points and eight rebounds.
COMING UP
The Red Raiders will next hit the court in the GPAC Tournament. The sites and times will be determined at the conclusion of all regular season contests. Opening round games will be played Tuesday, February 26th.
